Blood and Jazz
Svergurd, officially part of the Federation of Elven Kingdoms, is a state in western Liangdin. Formerly the seat of the ancient matriarchal Drow Empire, its royal line is now lost and its territory annexed by the surrounding elf nations.
Svergurd has long had a reputation for barbarousness, a reputation which was only exacerbated by the numerous war crimes committed by commanders during the Dark War; this reputation is partially rooted in Svergurd’s numerous highly unconventional gender norms, though whether Svergurd’s gender norms are truly any more oppressive than those of its patriarchal counterparts is a matter of much academic debate among historians and anthropologists. Drow gender norms are frequently exaggerated in non-Svergurdian media portraying drow society in order to depict a nation of nightmarishly tyrannical warrior-women and thus instill fear of permitting women to rule amongst the public. The truth is generally more nuanced.
